The Garden City Model Railroad Club's building houses a number of displays, layouts and dioramas including a model railway museum. The lower level contains the Garden City Model Railroad Club layouts and is open to the public during the Ferrymead Park opening hours. At times some of the displays may not be available. A smaller upstairs area is used by the club for its regular meetings.
Sunday is considered the best day to visit as many park exhibits are operational and the Garden City Model Railroad Club layouts are usually manned. Monday nights are set aside as the club's activity/meetings. Prospective members and visitors from other clubs are welcome to attend with prior arrangement.

There is an entry fee to gain admission to the Ferrymead Historic Park, however family or group concessions may be available. Entry to GCMRC clubhouse is included in the entry fee to the park.
